First Camp-out as a married Couple!

AUGUST 30-31

Brandon and I went on our very first camping trip since we have been married!
The day went a little like this:
-Wake up at 10:00am
-Left for DI to pick up some camping material...(we are obsessed with this place)...we found water jugs, a pan, some utensils for the fire, and B found a camo tshirt and nice pants!
-Next we stopped at walmart and picked up some snacks
-Finally we were off. We drove North from Rexburg towards Mesa Falls and Island Park
-We stopped at Mesa falls...the higher falls and then the lower falls.
>The Higher falls were really close so they were a lot more fun to look at. There B caught a snake and I got to hold it! It was AWESOME! We went into this little cabin\museum and saw dead bats, a moose and a giant bear.

> The lower falls were actually higher up funny enough. B wants to go hike down there some time which I think would be fun. It didn't look like it would be that difficult. Just an adventure.

-We decided to keep driving and possibly find a camping spot just on the side of the road or something. B said he wanted to try to camp by a river so we kept looking on the gps for land by a river. We turned randomly off into this patch of forest that looked like it was right next to some water...we later found out that this forest was full of cabins and peoples houses but we kept driving around in there anyway.
-We were just about to drive out of this forest place when B decided to drive down this dirt road to our left. We were not sure if it was to someones house or not.
-To our surprise we happened upon the most beautiful perfect little camp site. There were no houses around and no DO NOT TRESPASS signs. A fire pit had already been made and used and there was a little path through the forest straight to a river!! We could see it from the tree surrounded camp area!

-B and I explored. We picked up firewood and backed the truck up to the fire. We decided to sleep in the truck.
-We made a giant fishing pole out of: a tree (the pole), string out of a bracelet (the line), a piece of a fork and bottle cap (the hook) and caught some grasshoppers (the bait). We set it off of the side of the bank...but never caught anything :(.

-That night we also saw a moose across the river! And heard coyotes howling when we were sleeping. B almost caught a wild hen...he hit it with a stick, then it flew to a branch that was in between B and I (B wanted to eat it for dinner). B hit it again with the stick and it was injured so when it went to fly away it couldn't. It lost altitude and went straight for my head. I ducked and it went over me leaving a present (bird poop) on my shoulder. haha
-For dinner we ended up using our brand new dutch oven in the fire. I made chicken and rice and it actually turned out really well.

-We listened to Abraham Lincoln the Vampire Slayer the whole time we were there and not chasing hen or making hunting contraptions.
-B also made me start the fire with flint and steel. I am TERRIBLE at it but he makes me sit there and do it for like 30 mins until I get it. haha

-The next morning we got up and checked our fishing pole. Nothing. The water wasn't deep enough and we did not think that it was out far enough.
-B said he wanted to go for a morning swim...so after we took off our shoes, we jumped into the FREEZING water! B said I had to go under the water ALL the way...oh my goodness that was so hard. My feet and legs were already feeling pain right before numbing. But in the end we both did it and loved it. We were freezing afterward but it was so much fun! I am glad he had that idea. Later I found out that he did not think I would actually go in when he said we were going to. haha

- We left our awesome campsite and set off for a new adventure. We went to Big springs. It is the mouth of a huge river. Right when we got there we saw a baby moose walking across the river!!! There is a little bridge that you can stand on over the river...that was right next to the baby moose. There were also a ton of trout there. You could feed them for 25 cents but they didn't even eat anything.
-We looked around for a little while longer then headed home.
